The Glen Eira Council elections will be held by postal ballot beginning on October 7, 2024, with the polls closing on 25 October 2024 – voters must put ballots in the post by 6pm on 25 October. More information about the upcoming election can be found on the Glen Eira Council website.
In April 2020, the Victorian Government committed to electoral structure reviews for 39 councils to be conducted by Electoral Representation Advisory Panels (ERAPs). Copies of the Preliminary and Final review reports for Glen Eira Council can be found on the Victorian Government’s Local Government website.
Submissions related to the Glen Eira City Council electoral structure review closed on 9 August 2023. Six written submissions were made in respect to Glen Eira Council and two parties spoke at the public hearing held on 16 August 2023. The final report was submitted to the Minister for Local Government on 27 September 2023 and the final electoral structure was announced on 15 February 2024.
As a result of these reviews, 30 of the 39 local councils – including Glen Eira – will change to a single-member ward structure.
Glen Eira Council will continue to have nine councillors. However, instead of being divided into three wards, each represented by three councillors, Glen Eira will be divided into nine wards, each represented by a single councillor. More information about the changes, including maps of the boundaries of the old and new wards, can be found on the Victorian Electoral Commission website.
Candidate nominations closed on 17 September. The list of candidates can be found here —https://www.vec.vic.gov.au/voting/2024-local-council-elections/glen-eira-city-council/nominations
