Monthly Update – May 2024

Welcome to the May 2024 Monthly Update.

A Generous Donation

In addition to her Meditation and Mindfulness course, our tutor Tova Seelig can add generosity to her skillset! Tova had given a talk on mindfulness meditation at Menzies Malvern, which raised $500. She has nominated Glen Eira U3A to receive this donation and says that she is thrilled to be able to support our U3A.

Tova, we thank you for your generosity.

Health, Safety and Wellbeing – Some Thoughts

Our Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee, comprising volunteers from our members and Committee of Management, share information with our members in each Monthly News Update. This month, our focus is on:

  • Staying ahead of COVID-19 and Flu – there have been warnings of increased cases of flu and COVID. Vaccinations are available from most pharmacies and your doctor (who may bulk bill) and don’t forget these steps:
    • Stay up to date with your vaccinations
    • Get tested if you have symptoms and wear a mask
    • Stay at home if you have COVID or the flu (don’t forget to submit an absence apology if you are going to be absent from your course)
    • Speak with your GP if symptoms worsen
  • Wear your member badge – don’t forget to wear your member badge when you are at Glen Eira U3A. This, along with completing the Attendance Sheet for your course, allows us to quickly identify who is present at our venue as well as contact your emergency contact should anything untoward occur.
  • Do you see anything that is unsafe? Please let us know if you find anything that you believe to be unsafe. You can inform Reception, your tutor or our Health, Safety & Wellbeing Committee of your concerns.

New Horizons

The Winter issue of New Horizons is coming up and the Editor is calling for any submissions (preferably with pictures) to be sent to the Editor at newsletter@gleneirau3a.org.au or handed in at Reception. Our first theme for the year was “volunteering” and the Winter theme is planned to be “keeping well, warm and looking out for each other”. Closing date for submissions is Monday 3 June.
